"When we strive to pass wilderness legislation, what we are really engaged in is democracy at work."

Perspectives on Wilderness : Mark Lowe
Wilderness is important to me — an escape from the digital, suburban life that I live and work in. It’s where I go to recharge my feeling of ‘self’ and allows me to slow down and not go by a clock that represents hours and minute, where the only time that matters is day or night and the changing of the seasons. This allows my mind and body to slow down and relax while releasing the stress that comes from the fast lane culture that is now part of our society.
Wilderness is important for the health and well being of humans in order to continue on as a species. If wilderness areas are not conserved and expanded the human condition will suffer in various ways that can't be measured for future generations. Whether it is wilderness or inner city parks or the Grand Canyon, open and wild spaces should continue be allowed to thrive and enhance the beauty that is this place we call earth.
